Dosimetry

Radiation processing consists in exposing a product to an accelerated electron beam , to Gamma rays emitted by a radioactive source or to X Rays in order to preserve or improve some of its characteristics.

THE RADIATION TREATED PRODUCT DOES NOT BECOME RADIOACTIVE!
Radiation processing is characterised by the absorbed dose, (absorbed energy per mass unit of the treated product).
The dose unit is the Gray (Gy). 1 Gray = 1 Joule per kilogram of matter.

  • Reference irradiation source calibration (Electron Beam, Gamma, X Ray)
  • Dosimetry systems performance evaluation (uncertainty, reproducibility, stability, environmental effects)
  • Research for new dosimetry systems (optical, ESR, calorimetry, chemical, electrical systems, …)

Radiation sources (Electron Beam, Gamma, X Ray)

  • Qualification of the irradiation source (IQ/OQ according to EN 552, ISO 11137, ISO/ASTM…)
  • Radiation process validation (PQ according to EN 552, ISO 11137, ISO/ASTM …)
  • Routine process control (Alanine, GEX Windose, GEX DoseStix, CTA, FWT, Gafchromic, Gammachrome, Harwell Red and Amber Perspex,…)
  • Electron Beam Accelerator dimensioning according to product characteristics and requested irradiation throughput.
